Before you start learning any language other than your mother tongue, the first question is the need of learning that language. More than 500million people in the world speak Spanish, thus making it nearly compulsory. It is spoken in 21 countries. Spanish is the second most important language in the USA, only next to English. Fluency at Spanish can make you understand enough of French, Portuguese and Italian. Reading and writing any language is preceded by knowing the pronunciation and spelling of the words, meaning of the words, grammar and speaking practice. All these things are subject to Environment. Engross: You speak your mother tongue just because of the environment. Form your childhood you have been hearing your mother tongue and subjected to that environment for 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days of the year. The first thing that you should do is plunge yourself in the Spanish environment such as Spanish TV channels, radio station, restaurant and friends Habits: Develop habits that promote Spanish. Develop a liking and later a habit of watching Spanish television programs, hearing Spanish radio stations, hearing Spanish songs seeking entertainment at a Spanish clubs, having food at Spanish restaurants, having company of those who speaking Spanish only. Speaking Spanish: Before you read and write your mother tongue, you must have learnt to speak it. This is even applicable to learning Spanish. The first thing is learn to speak Spanish. Now for speaking any language you need vocabulary and grammar. Vocabulary means not only being aware of the meaning of the word but also its right pronunciation. The rules of grammar serve the purpose of helping you to arrange the words to form a meaningful sentence. Instead of going for long sentences first learn short phrases which fit the situation and then attempt the longer sentences. You would find yourself in utter confusion if you try to attempt the longer sentences in the very first stage of learning Spanish. Relativity: Try to relate the words of Spanish with that of your mother tongue. This could make the things easier. Use of Internet: take the help the internet as much as possible because there are websites which offer you learning Spanish language free of cost along with the pronunciation of each and every word. Imitation: A child learns the mother tongue by imitating his elders at home and the surroundings. This is even applicable to learning Spanish language. Practice: Practice as much as you can because practice makes a man perfect. Accept the reality as it is: Be humble in accepting that you are not fluent at Spanish and ask those who know it perfectly to correct you where ever you go wrong. The above tips if put in practice methodically are sure to help you to learn Spanish.
