Owning a car is a drain on many of our finances and in these uncertain economic times, we're all trying to tighten our belts; unfortunately, however, we need transportation and for many of us a car is a necessity. It's not just the initial purchase which stings us financially; it's the petrol costs, tyres and maintenance which all adds up. A car is truly for life, not just for Christmas.
Unfortunately for many of us, the maintenance costs can run to astronomical levels, especially when parts need replacing, and it's easy to think that purchasing unofficial parts rather than genuine BMW, Nissan or Honda parts is the best way to save money. Sadly, this doesn't seem to be the case for most cars.
Although compatible parts will tend to be cheaper - sometimes a great deal cheaper - than official ones, they almost never last as long as genuine Suzuki, Mercedes or Honda parts, meaning that we will need to replace them far more often and consequently we will have to spend more on the maintenance of the vehicle in the long run. Saving money in the initial stages of the cars problems by buying cheap parts usually turns out to be a false economy.
Admittedly, it can sometimes seem that official Toyota, Chevrolet or Honda parts are very expensive compared to those offered by other manufacturers and claimed to be compatible with your car, but at least with genuinely licensed parts you can be certain of the compatibility and quality of these items. This provides both the peace of mind that when your repairs are taken care of, it's going to be quite a long time before that particular part needs to be replaced again, which isn't always the case with unofficial parts.
In the current economic climate it may seem that saving money in the short term is the best way to get ourselves through it, but in many cases, it's still worth spending the money to get official Ford, Nissan or Honda parts in order to save money in the long term. It's all well and good making a saving on the purchase, but if the part breaks again six months later, that's further outlay which could have been avoided if higher quality parts were purchased. Many suppliers are actually far more reasonably priced than you may think and it's certainly worth spending a little more on quality than buying cheaper and regretting it a short time down the road.
