A better way to light larger areas is to use tube fluorescent lights. These will require special fixtures, but once they are put in replacing the bulbs and ballasts is a simple matter. Tube fluorescents are the most commonly used type of interior commercial lighting.
You can easily install several of these and operate them at much lower costs than the same amount of incandescents. Since these will be used for interior lighting, you will not have to worry about the quirks of fluorescents to not function in sub-zero temperatures.
This can be overcome with special ballasts that can adapt these lights for below zero outdoor operation. Unlike interior commercial fluorescent lighting of the past, todays fluorescents no longer have the poor coloring or the flickering and humming which was so closely associated with them in the past.
