Cars - you will never make money on cars; they depreciate the moment that you drive them off the forecourt, and continue to depreciate with every mile you cover. They will bleed you dry and leave you frustrated but despite all of this the UK still has a love affair with the automobile.

Although you will never get the same money for a car that you paid for it, there are a number of steps that you can take to ensure that you obtain the maximum value from your investment when you are ready to sell. One of these steps is to maintain the service history of the vehicle. BMW, Audi and Honda dealers are around the top of the list when it comes to customer care.

Why not take advantage of having your car serviced to take a new car for a test drive. The next time you pop into your Honda dealers to book your service, why not mention that you would like to try out the new Jazz or if you're feeling a bit sporty then go for the S2000. It is true that if you don't ask in life then you certainly won't get anything.

Make the most of your time in the dealership. A number of dealers offer more than just cars in the showroom these days. You could visit Suzuki or Honda dealers and try out their range of motorcycles if you are finding that driving in the credit crunch is having an adverse effect on your wallet, or BMW offers a range of products from jumpers to children's toys. Utilise your time effectively and browse the products, you might just find something that will make your life easier or save you time in the future.

It is important to remember that a lot of the dealers that you visit will be offering the new government approved scrappage scheme against new cars and might try to tempt you with deal against your current model. Fiat and Honda dealers are currently offering up to 2000 pounds off the price of a brand new car when you trade in your old vehicle. However, it is worth remembering that the dealer is probably quite keen to make the sale so there may be room to haggle a bit over the price of the car.

At the end of the day the dealerships are there to help you, it doesn't matter who Audi, BMW, Fiat or Honda dealers, they are all there to assist you with whatever problem you have with your car, yet most of us don't dare to venture into them unless we are considering buying a new car. Make the most of the opportunity next time you visit your local dealer.
